MUG's basketball tournament

The Inaugural UniHoops basketball tournament, organised by the student-led organisation Resource Team GUMed, proved to be an exhilarating two-day event showcasing the talent and camaraderie within our University community. With eight teams competing fervently on the court from April 6th to April 7th, 2024 at the MUG’s Sports Centre, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation.
Amidst the basketball showdowns, the tournament also featured performances by the university gymnastics team, a melodious piece by our in-house band, and a dance performance. These additional displays of talent added flair and entertainment to the event, captivating the audience and highlighting the diverse skills our students possess beyond the basketball court. It was a testament to the plethora of abilities nurtured within our University community.
The tournament has been supported by the MUG’s authorities, Welcome Point – Foreign Students and Employees Support Centre, Department of Foreign Languages and Department of Sport and Physical Education. In the event took part: Dr. Habil. Tomasz Smiatacz, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Marzena Kołtoniak, Head of the Welcome Point – Foreign Students and Employees Support Centre, Mentor of RT GUMed and Magda Warzocha from the Department of Foreign Languages. Teams’ coaches were Arkadiusz Suska and Katarzyna Sawicka from the Department of Sport and Physical Education.
This identifies as a trailblazing integration of the Polish and English students in the field of basketball under the leadership of Kanak Ohlyan, President of RT GUMed, Srishti Jha, Vice-President of RT GUMed, Khushi Chhillar, Secretary of RT GUMed, Srinivas Nagarajan, Sports Head and Nishan Kharwar, Head of Organising Committee. Members of the committee’s officiating team were: Jerome Joseph, Jagannatha Giridhari, Dhruva Tyagi, Mohammed Arham and Nehemiah Mathew.
